postheadericon Sustainable Tourism

VillaggioCarovana holiday home in Sardinia, supports sustainable tourism: we use energy saving light bulbs and produce photovoltaic energy, we recycle our rubbish and much more

In line with inspiring principles of our project and the mission of our cooperative, we strive to operate in harmony with our mother land, in order to leave a healthy and homely world to our children.
We embrace and promote a model of tourism that contributes to saving available global resources.

The holiday home is south-east facing and has large windows on this side to exploit natural light and heat in the winter.

We like to recycle any object that could still be useful, the central building was furnished mostly by re-habilitating dismissed furniture and equipment in good condition that was donated to us.

We use energy saving light bulbs with a photo sensor that ensures they are automatically switched off at sunrise. Our garden is lit by small solar-powered lights, so that our guests can still marvel at the stars at night.

We chose to avoid air conditioning and keep cool through the ceiling fans, the curtains and the outside covers we made.

A mortgage with the Ethical Bank helped us install photovoltaic panes to produce our energy.

We also do our best to use non polluting detergents and to minimize their overall use. Our laundry is washed with natural soap nuts from India and Nepal, which are added to our compost after use.  We use natural essential oils to scent our laundry, and vinegar to clean our glass and steel.  Grey waters from kitchen and laundry are used to water plants.

Rubbish produced at the holiday home is separated for recycling or added to a large compost maker where earthworms cooperate to produce great compost.

Turismo Sostenibile

In order to save water, we designed a drip irrigation system for our plants that works at night in order to minimize water waste due to evaporation.  Our toilet flushes have a “start and stop” mechanism that ensures that only the necessary amount is used.  Taps are equipped with faucet aerators.  We drink water from the tap and encourage our guests to do the same.

We avoid using plastic ware at the holiday home and dishes are washed with an industrial size dishwasher that provides maximum hygiene as well as saving water.

We also like too use paper again and again before closing its life cycle: our children use the clean side of printed-on sheets for their drawings and only recycled paper is used for loo and kitchen rolls.

We use strictly local produce as much as possible.
